Connect a custom domain
What to prepare before connecting a paid custom domain to a BaseStack site.
Overview
Custom domains are available on paid plans. BaseStack needs to verify that the domain points to the right site before traffic is routed publicly.
Before you start
Key points
- Make sure the target BaseStack site is published.
- Confirm you can edit DNS records with your domain registrar or DNS provider.
- Choose whether you want the root domain, such as example.com, a subdomain, such as www.example.com, or both.
- Avoid connecting a domain that is actively serving another production site until you are ready to switch.
Troubleshooting
Key points
- DNS changes can take time to propagate. If you just changed records, wait and recheck.
- Remove conflicting A, AAAA, CNAME, or forwarding records for the same hostname.
- Make sure the domain request in BaseStack exactly matches the hostname you configured.
- If the domain was previously connected to another service, clear old verification records that no longer apply.
Do not share registrar passwords
BaseStack support can help interpret DNS records, but you should never send account passwords, recovery codes, or full registrar access.
